HAMILTON, ON (July 17, 2013)- Jan Chappel, Senior Technical Specialist , will deliver two presentations at the NIDMAR Summer Institute 2013, a workshop and conference event that will foster discussion on an integrated workplace health approach to age, disability, job retention and return to work.

1) Age-related Occupational Health and Safety Issues and Challenges- 8:30 a.m.- 10:00 a.m.
Research has shown that physical and mental changes do occur as people age. Using case studies from an occupational health and safety perspective, Ms. Chappel will discuss how these changes affect workers and the tasks they do at work, including sitting, computer work, carrying heavy loads, etc.
2) Extending Healthy Working Lives Through Prevention and Job Retention Policies and Practice- 10:30 a.m- 12:00 p.m.
Ms. Chappel’s second session will introduce specific solutions and practices which can help prevent the changes due to aging from becoming challenges in the workplace. She will talk about the possible impact of the workplace on older workers, and discuss solutions that will keep older workers –and in most cases, all workers - safe and free from injury.
