Making the Office a Safe and Healthy Place to Work

HAMILTON, ON (August 28, 2007) - The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS)has released a new e-course to help office managers and supervisors prevent injuries and illness, and foster a positive safety culture in their workplaces.

While the office may seem to be a relatively safe environment in which to work, there are many hazards that cause injuries and health problems each year among office workers. And just as in industrial or other workplace environments, they can be every bit as painful and costly.

The e-course, Health and Safety for Office Managers provides those responsible for providing a safe and healthy workplace with a practical introduction to office safety including potential hazards and how to prevent them. It also covers a wide range of topics including ergonomics, stress, lighting, indoor air quality, slips, trips and falls, and WHMIS.

This one-hour course helps managers and supervisors understand their health and safety responsibilities as well as know, understand and meet the occupational health and safety legislation that applies to them.

As with all CCOHS e-courses, participants can contact CCOHS subject specialists to ask specific questions that may arise. There are quizzes throughout and a certificate of completion is issued upon passing the exam.

CCOHS courses are unique in that they are developed by experts in the field, and reviewed by representatives from labour, employers and government to ensure the content and approach are unbiased and credible. Courses are available in English and French.
