The most common hazardous situations deal with silo entry or entry into manure storage facilities or liquid manure spreaders. A confined space means an enclosed or partially enclosed space with restricted access and which is or may become hazardous to a person entering it, because of its design, construction, location, atmosphere, or the materials or substances contained in it. It is important that farm owners or operators be educated in the dangers before entering any confined space and also that they inform farm workers of the same. The dangers of silo gas and manure gas along with the necessary precautions to be taken are amply covered in information pamphlets. Contact the New Brunswick Occupational Health and Safety Commission for additional information concerning regulations covering confined space entry. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
