Apparently, the worker jumped and fell to his death as a result of an improperly secured bungee cord. *** LOCATION *** Bungee jumping operations across Ontario. *** APPLICABLE LEGISLATION *** Any bungee jump by a worker is a contravention of occupational health and safety legislation. Section 89 of the Regulations for Industrial Establishments requires that workers be protected from the hazard of falling by the use of safety belts or harnesses. The Occupational Health and Safety Act requires that employers and supervisors ensure that workers work in the manner and with the protective devices, measures and procedures as prescribed. As well, workers are required to work in compliance with the provisions of the Act and the regulations. Employers shall advise their workers of the fall protection requirements and ensure that the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations are followed.
