Lifting Case Study

Present the following scenario to the class:

Before a school concert, Tom and Lisa are asked to help set up the chairs in the gym. They notice that the chairs are in piles of 10. They have to move the chairs across the gym. What steps should they follow to avoid possible injury?

Suggested Responses:

To avoid injury, Tom and Lisa should consider the following:

  • Using a cart to move the piles closer to where the chairs will be set up.
  • Working together (team work) to move the piles.
  • Lifting/carrying the chair one or two at a time only.
