HIAB cranes of the models listed above have an attached load 
rating plate that shows an inner hook capacity of over 16,000 
pounds.  This rating is incorrect.  A special hook and pin 
assembly is required for capacities in excess of 16,000 pounds, 
but the HIAB distributor, Atlas Polar, does not sell this 
assembly in Ontario.  Atlas Polar has made available a stick-on 
decal to cover and blank out the incorrect load rating. 

A licensed operator is required for such equipment only if it is 
rated over 16,000 pounds.  Owners of these models of HIAB cranes 
must make sure that either the load capacity plates are corrected 
or their operators are licensed.

Some hoisting devices are equipped by the manufacturer with a 
special hook and pin assembly.  In other cases, owners or 
contractors have fabricated an attachment of their own, using 
good engineering practices as required by regulation.  When such 
specially-equipped devices are used on construction projects, the 
operators must be licensed under the Regulations for Construction 
Projects (O.Reg. 213/91, section 150(1)).
