NOTICE TO RETAIN THE CURRENT ONTARIO OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS OF SEVEN SUBSTANCES Produced by: Ontario Ministry of Labour On the recommendation of the Occupational Exposure Limits Task Force of the Joint Steering Committee for Hazardous Substances in the Workplace, the current Ontario occupational exposure limits of the seven substances listed in the Table below will remain unchanged. Submissions received in the public review process demonstrated significant potential for adverse economic impact if the proposed limits for these substances are adopted. The Table lists the current limits that are included in the "Regulation respecting Control of Exposure to Biological or Chemical Agents", O. Reg. 833, made under the "Occupational Health and Safety Act, "R.S.O. 1990, c. 0.1. The Joint Steering Committee on Hazardous Substances in the Workplace, consisting of labour and management representatives was established by the Minister of Labour to develop and review regulations designed to control worker exposure to hazardous substances, under the "Occupational Health and Safety Act". A Notice of Proposed Changes to Occupational Exposure Limits of 101 Substances was published by the Minister in "The Ontario Gazette" on August 1, 1992. In this notice, the Minister encouraged written submissions of comments on the socio-economic impact in Ontario and also scientific and technical data and studies not considered in the criteria documentation but having a direct bearing on the proposed limits. The Minister further stated in the Notice that valid proposed limits would be endorsed by the Joint Task Force unless submissions received in the public review process demonstrate significant adverse economic impact.
