The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) is Canada's national resource for workplace health and safety. Since 1979, we have been helping people understand and address the health and safety concerns that affect their work.
Through our Inquiries Services, the Safety InfoLine offers a free, bilingual, and confidential way for anyone in Canada to ask questions about workplace health and safety. Whether you are a worker, employer, health and safety committee member, or simply looking for reliable information, you can connect directly with one of our knowledgeable health and safety specialists to help you find what you need.
Contact us with your questions through our web form, by phone or by mail. You’ll receive your answer by email, making it easy to share with co-workers, health and safety committee members, or healthcare professionals, and to keep as written documentation for future reference.
Our OSH Answers fact sheets, which are clear, easy-to-read resources covering a wide range of topics, also answer many common questions.
We help you find credible information on workplace health and safety. Our goal is to support you in making informed decisions about specific issues in the workplace. Whether you are identifying hazards, preventing injuries, or would like more information on how to implement health and safety programs to improve workplace conditions, our team is here to help.
Our team of health and safety specialists takes care to ensure that every answer is accurate, up to date, and provides clear, unbiased, practical information. We have access to all CCOHS resources, including technical experts, publications, databases, and an extensive library containing specialized journals, books, and microfiche collections. Each response is carefully reviewed for quality and technical accuracy before it is sent, so you can trust the information you receive.
The Safety InfoLine service is available to anyone in Canada, in both English and French. People who contact us include workers, their families, employers, health and safety professionals, union representatives, and government officials.
The service is free and confidential. We do not share your questions or personal details with anyone. Our goal is to help you get the information you need to stay safe and informed at work. While workers and employers in Canada are the primary users of the service, we also respond to individuals around the world who are looking for trustworthy answers to their workplace health and safety questions or looking to do business in Canada.
We aim to respond to your question within one to three business days. Questions are answered in the order we receive them. Our response time may vary depending on:
