Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety
Collaborates with Health Canada

HAMILTON, ON (September 23, 2004) - Health Canada has awarded the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) a renewed two-year mandate to be the Canadian Health Network’s (CHN) affiliate responsible for workplace health.

As the CHN workplace health affiliate, CCOHS provides leadership in the field of workplace health, working with Health Canada and other leading health organizations to provide the most reliable and current information, such as articles, content and resources, to Canadian workers and their families.

CCOHS has had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of Canadian organizations and deliver the workplace injury and illness prevention message to a more diverse, wider audience than that of the traditional health and safety professionals, and to the workers of Canada.

CCOHS President and CEO Len Hong commented, "The impact that the workplace can have in maintaining and improving the health of Canadian workers, makes the work CCOHS does with CHN a natural, mutually beneficial partnership. CCOHS has an important contribution to make in providing information and resources that help keep people safe and healthy, and we appreciate the opportunity to work with and achieve this through an organization as highly respected and trusted as the CHN."

CCOHS has served as the CHN Workplace Health partner since 1999. In March 2004, Health Canada selected the Centre to continue in this role for two more years with an option of a one-year renewal.
