Forum IV Keynote Speaker to Address Bullying in the Workplace

HAMILTON, ON (May 24, 2012) International best selling author Barbara Coloroso will address bullying in the workplace as the keynote speaker for the national health and safety conference being hosted by the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS). CCOHS’ Forum IV: Better Together will take place October 29 to 30, 2012, in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

It is the most dangerous combination: bullies who get what they want from their target, bullied adults who are afraid to tell, bystanders who either watch, participate, or look away, and employers who see the incidents as simply "teasing" and a normal part of the workplace.

Coloroso says we have only to look to the headlines to understand that this is a recipe for tragedy. Some bullying targets, their cries unheard, have fought back with violence that has devastated entire communities; others have committed suicide; many more suffer in silence, their lives a constant round of emotional and physical pain.

Using her book The Bully, the Bullied, and the Bystander as a framework, Coloroso will give workers and employers at ForumIV tools to help break the cycle of workplace violence.

ForumIV brings together subject experts, workers, employers, and government representatives to share their collective knowledge and experience around the issues of mental health in the workplace, harassment and bullying, healthy workplaces, and the impact of psychosocial work factors on musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).

Featuring expert speakers, panel discussions, group workshops, and an innovation and best practices showcase, Forum IV is an opportunity for participants to collaborate on integrated, comprehensive approaches to total health and wellness at work.

Participants registering on or before July 31, 2012 are eligible for early bird pricing. More information about the program and registration including, early registration, group, membership and student discounts is available at www.ccohs.ca/events/forumIV.
