New CanOSH Internet Portal: OH&S information even more accessible to Canadians

A completely updated CanOSH website was launched today, making it Canada's most extensive gateway to occupational health and safety (OH&S) services and information. This website provides easy access to a defined collection of public, governmental resources from the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) and other Canadian government agencies at the federal or provincial and territorial levels. The CanOSH website is a result of a continued commitment and evolving partnership held between CCOHS and federal, provincial and territorial governments, since its first release in 1998.

The CanOSH website, available at http://www.canoshweb.org, provides key government OH&S information and service links to Canadians. People across Canada can use the information found through this indexed portal to be informed of their legal requirements and improve workplace health and safety practices. Canadians can also easily search, find and compare what jurisdictional information is available to them via a colour-coded map of Canada or a new navigational legend. This helps to greatly reduce the time Canadians may spend trying to find dependable, high-quality OH&S information on other websites.

Len Hong, President of CCOHS comments: "Both CCOHS and our federal, provincial and territorial government partners have assembled a wealth of high-quality OH&S information and services. The site has undergone major changes in an effort to make it a more practical tool for Canadians. We're pleased to have an online system for sharing information with each other and with the Canadian workers and employers we serve, in a continued effort to reduce workplace illnesses and injuries."

Recognized internationally as an innovative and authoritative resource, CCOHS is Canada's national occupational health and safety centre, a non-profit organization established in 1978 by the Government of Canada, to foster and improve the prevention of work-related injuries and illnesses in Canada. CCOHS collects, evaluates and distributes information on workplace health, safety and environmental issues from sources around the world. CCOHS is directed by a council comprised of representatives from employers, labour and government; and is committed to providing impartial and accurate information to all Canadians.

The Centre represents Canada in the International Labour Organization's CIS National Centre Program, and is a World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre.
