Canadian Health Network and CCOHS:

Delivering Trustworthy Workplace Health Information to Canadians

HAMILTON, ON--The Canadian Health Network (CHN) is "...one of the best health and medical sites anywhere in cyberspace" quotes Canadian Living's Spring Health Issue 2001.

CHN (www.canadian-health-network.ca) has helped countless people find dependable and up-to-date health information. Built on a "network of networks", CHN's content-rich site is for anyone who requires Canadian specific information. It is a vital resource that can help people gain control and lead a healthy life.

The Canadian Health Network currently features information on 26 major health topics and demographic groups, including:

The Canadian Health Network is funded by and in partnership with Health Canada. It is the first national government and non-governmental partnership of its kind in the world. With the goal to establish CHN as Canada's leading source for "health information you can trust", this free service offers over 6,000 carefully selected Internet-based resources. The collection grows daily.

The foundations of CHN echo the principles that CCOHS holds. We share an overall objective to help reduce illness and injury in the workplace.

The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) is proud to be the Workplace Health Affiliate Partner and among the more than 600 health information providers contributing their knowledge and expertise to this project.

Anne Gravereaux, CCOHS' Health and Safety Products and Services Manager, says, "Our position has always been to provide information as a tool for prevention. The idea is to get information to people so that they can discuss and implement changes in their workplaces. CCOHS has a 20-year history of serving Canadians and we realize how much need there is for information on workplace health."

As the Workplace Health Affiliate Partner for CHN, CCOHS provides leadership and expertise in the area of workplace health and safety. CCOHS also answers health information requests from individuals and health intermediaries as submitted through CHN.

Recognized internationally as an innovative and authoritative resource, CCOHS is Canada's national occupational health and safety center. We are a non-profit organization established in 1978 by the Government of Canada to foster and improve the prevention of work-related injuries and illnesses in Canada. CCOHS collects, evaluates and distributes information on workplace health, safety and environmental issues from sources around the world. The Centre is directed by a council comprised of representatives from employers, labour and government and is committed to providing impartial and accurate information to all Canadians.

The Centre represents Canada in the International Labour Organization's CIS National Centre Program, and is a World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre.
