     Ergonomics Data on the World Wide Web

A wealth of data on ergonomics is available to occupational health and safety professionals via Internet access. Several sites worth noting (and bookmarking) are listed below. This is a representative - not a comprehensive - list of appropriate sites on this topic. For a much wider list of sites, check the CCOHS Internet Directory.

A scrapbook incorporating illustrated examples of "bad design" - the consequence of not following human factors principles, resulting in items that are difficult to use.

CCOHS OSH Answers
Includes over 2500 questions and answers covering topics such as ergonomics, shift work, specific occupations, etc.

OSH References
A subscription-based collection of research databases including CISILO (International Labour Organization), HSELINE (UK Health & Safety Executive), and NIOSHTIC® with OSHLINE™ (US National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety).

Cornell University Ergonomics Web
Contains slide shows, tutorials, publications list, worksheets, checklist, etc.

Crew System Ergonomics Information Analysis Center
An extensive site maintained by the US Air Force, presenting ergonomics and information on human factors gathered from a variety of disciplines and sources.

CybErg
This is the site of CybErg 96, a "virtual ergonomics conference." Links to CybErg 99, held in September and October of this year, are included.

Ergonomics Initiative in Injury Protection
Originating at the University of Waterloo, this site is a "joint project with a multi-year time frame in which business sectors can interact to reduce occupational injuries." Contents include the full text from a number of ergonomics articles.

ErgoWeb
ErgoWeb is an extensive web site containing a variety of ergonomics-related information including workplace evaluation and design software; a database of ergonomics-related products and services; standards, guidelines and instructional materials; case studies; industry news and events; and more.

Human Factors Design Guide
Presented by the US Federal Aviation Administration, this guide is described as "a seminal work in the field of human factors." The entire 1000+ page document is available as a .PDF (Portable Data Format) file.

RSI Network Newsletter
This newsletter provides articles, product information, news and other items of interest relating to the Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) community.

Systems Concepts Ltd.
Maintained by a UK ergonomics consultancy, this site provides a variety of ergonomics resources including case studies, interpretations of UK regulations, information on ISO standards, and the complete text of its bi-monthly publication.

Typing Injuries FAQ
A data source employing Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on typing injuries. Topics include general information, keyboard design, voice recognition, mouse operation, software, furniture and links to related resources.
