Why are your products subscriptions?
CCOHS provides a service to keep its customers up-to-date with the latest information. Chemical and other health and safety information changes rapidly and new records and updated records are frequently added to the databases. To ensure that only the most recent information available is used, most databases are updated every three months, with some Web databases updated on a monthly basis.
The purchase of a subscription is not the same as purchasing a book. Clients are subscribing to the information on a current basis, and after the subscription expires, so does their access to the information. While other database providers require their customers to return CD-ROM / DVD discs once the subscription period has elapsed, CCOHS does not impose this inconvenience. Instead, CCOHS clients receive a message explaining that the information has expired and that the updated CD-ROM / DVD for the subscription should be installed as soon as possible.
One exception to this is the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) DVD. Client feedback has shown that this database has important "archive" value, so only warnings regarding expiry appear on these discs. An archive is not available on the Web.
Receiving regular updates helps you stay aware and in compliance!
