Through its services and products, CCOHS advances health and safety in Canadian workplaces and the physical and mental well being of Canadians.

The Communications Department provides a comprehensive communications service for CCOHS that includes promoting workplace health and safety in Canada and CCOHS services and solutions; promoting CCOHS and raising its profile in Canadian workplace health and safety to increase user audiences; and, improving stakeholder relations.

The Marketing Specialist supports the achievement of the goals of the Marketing and Outreach Team, Department and the organization by:

Duties

  1. Marketing and Advertising
    • Develops proposals, with director approval, for grants and funding through external government bodies and departments.
    • Implements advertising and marketing campaigns for organizational profile, products, and cooperative campaigns. Develops communications and marketing collateral as required.
    • Liaises with outside agencies and Government departments to develop, deploy and optimize advertising campaigns and programs and comply with Government policies and procedures. Secures advertising agreements; synchronizes messaging with policy, departmental and government relations.

  2. Measurement and Analytics
    • Maintains oversight of website metrics, promotional campaigns, and other communications data (social marketing) to provide ongoing reports (internal and external). Analyzes and interprets results to identify areas of improvement and works with the team and other units to optimize performance and achieve goals.

  3. Engagement (Social Media/marketing)
    • Contributes to the social media program to help build community and foster engagement with users, including creating content; following social media policy, procedures and meeting objectives; and measuring and reporting results.
    • Participates in the planning, execution, production, and measurement of online events including podcasts, webinars, and live streams and events.

  4. Conferences and Events
    • Assists in the planning and preparations required for conferences and trade shows to achieve targeted geographic and demographic presence; assigns actionable leads to relevant service units; prepares and distributes responses to information requests and helps prepares exhibit and speaker staff and associated marketing collateral.
    • Reviews technical content to develop engaging presentations, applying plain language and corporate communications principles and branding.
    • Exhibits at conferences and trade shows to promote the organization and CCOHS products and services as required.

Scope of Position

The position reports to the Outreach Program Manager and is one of several positions in the team. The incumbent is accountable for the successful performance and continuous improvement of programs and services within their area of skills and competencies.

The incumbent works with staff in the Communications Team and Design Lab and across other service units (technical specialists) to exchange information, prepare presentations and provide support and guidance. The incumbent also liaises with various federal governmental agencies to apply for, develop, and deploy advertising programs, as well as to prepare mandatory reporting.

Know-How

The position is required to have a thorough understanding of CCOHS, its products and services, as well as advanced knowledge of marketing and advertising strategy, tactics, and good practices. Understanding of market research and how to analyse data is essential. The position requires strong written and oral communications skills. The position requires advanced knowledge of social media platforms as well as proficiency with the suite of MS-Office products, CRM software, market research and analysis tools, online marketing tools (eg Envoke), web analytics software, and other web interfaces including emerging and new technologies. Exceptional coordination skills are required to manage many multi-touch campaigns that are running simultaneously across multiple product and service lines.

The incumbent works closely with members of the three teams within the Communications department as well as with staff at all levels, across all service units, within CCOHS to discuss problems, exchange information, prepare recommendations and provide support and guidance. The incumbent has contact with the federal government agency counterparts to process national advertising and promotional initiatives, and with external clients and organizations for the purpose of event logistics and product customization opportunities.

Problem-Solving

  • ensuring that relevant government processes are followed and required paperwork and reports are submitted to the appropriate govt dept per timeline;
  • ensuring that CCOHS external presentations reflect corporate principles and brand, and
  • providing advice and guidance to others.

Accountability

The incumbent is accountable for the performance of advertising and promotional campaigns and initiatives, and continuous improvement of processes, within their area of skills and competencies including:

  • ensuring that relevant government processes are followed and required paperwork and reports are submitted to the appropriate govt dept per timeline;
  • ensuring that CCOHS external presentations reflect corporate principles and brand, and
  • providing advice and guidance to others.

Working Conditions

  • Physical Effort: The incumbent works at a computer for most of each day. The work is occasionally interspersed with non-computer work such as meetings, reading, reviewing information, speaking on the telephone or in person.
  • Physical Environment: The workstation is set up ergonomically with the appropriate wrist rest, mouse rest, document holder, etc. There is some risk of repetitive strain injury due to intensity and duration of work unless safe work procedures are followed (recognizing that there are ‘peak’ periods where deadlines and competing priorities are being juggled).
  • Sensory Attention: There is a need for concentration when writing, listening, creating formulas in spreadsheets, and analyzing information and reviewing data in print and on the computer. There is extensive contact with internal staff and external clients and organizations, which requires listening and/or reading attentively to understand and resolve issues with tact and diplomacy.
  • Mental Stress: There is frequent contact with internal and external “clients” and government representatives, with competing priorities. There are many conflicting demands and concurrent deadlines to meet, often from external clients (federal government) to ensure that opportunities are not lost and that CCOHS is compliant (GoC reporting). There are consequences and penalties for missed deadlines or errors that may occur when completing government contracts/agreements.

Specifications

A university degree and/or post-secondary education with a specialization in market research analysis, advertising marketing strategies, and client communication.

Three years’ experience working in a marketing capacity that includes social media, in a team oriented environment.

Advanced proficiency in the suite of MS-Office products and CRM software.

Advanced proficiency with market research and analysis tools, online marketing and deliverability tools (eg Envoke), web analytics software (eg Google Analytics) and other web interfaces including emerging and new technologies.

Excellent organizational and project management skills are keys to succeeding in this multi-faceted, multi-project environment.

Advanced verbal and written communicate skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills and experience in working in a multidisciplinary or matrix oriented environment.

Experience working within a health and safety organization is an asset

Ability to communicate in both official languages is an asset.

Salary

Within the range of

$66,719 to $85,900 (CCOHS-08) per annum.
