The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety was created in 1978 as a national resource to collect and disseminate information and best practices in the area of occupational health and safety. The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety promotes and facilitates consultation and cooperation among federal, provincial and territorial jurisdictions as well as participation by labour, employers and other stakeholders in the establishment and maintenance of high occupational health and safety standards and initiatives for Canadians. The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety is governed by a tripartite Council with representation from labour, business, and governments. The Council of Governors helps ensure that the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety remains a trusted source of unbiased information for employers, workers and governments. The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety functions as a departmental corporation and is accountable to Parliament through the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour.
The role of the President is to promote the fundamental right of Canadians to a healthy and safe working environment, to effectively manage and lead the institution, and to work closely with the Council of Governors to identify and advance strategic priorities. The President also acts as Chief Executive Officer of the organization. In this capacity, he/she has supervision over and direction of the work and staff of the Centre and is also the chairperson of the executive board.
Further details about the organization and its activities can be found on the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety's website.
