HAMILTON, ON (June 24, 2014) – The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) and Vubiz, an e-learning solutions company, recently celebrated a ten year milestone of collaboration, providing credible and accessible online health and safety training to working Canadians.
“Ten years ago, CCOHS and Vubiz formed a strategic partnership to provide courses to help equip Canadian workers to be safe at work, and to help employers and businesses meet their health and safety responsibilities,” said Steve Horvath, President and Chief Executive Officer at CCOHS. “With the help of Vubiz, CCOHS has been able to offer training in a convenient, easy-to-access e-learning format.”
As a result of the ten year partnership between CCOHS and Vubiz, over 100 e-courses (in English and French) have been delivered to over 175,000 participants, covering an extensive range of health and safety topics.
“The Team at Vubiz is very proud of the close working relationship we have with CCOHS and the progress made over the 10 years. It is a pleasure working with the professional team at CCOHS and we look forward to many more years of providing innovative e-learning tools,” said Jim Rapino, President and Chief Executive Officer at Vubiz.
Value in e-Learning
E-learning courses provide flexibility for workers, managers and supervisors to receive the health and safety training they need to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses.
- Individuals who take e-courses experience significantly higher rates of retention than those taking classroom courses - in less time. Content is delivered in smaller, more manageable units. Individuals can skim material they know, and review material that is new to them and students can convert information to knowledge at their own pace.
- According to various published studies, individuals taking e-courses retain up to 100% more than if they took comparable classroom courses.
- Taking an e-learning program typically requires 30-60% less time than attending a comparable classroom course.
- As well as reducing training time, using e-learning programs eliminates the need for travel and its attendant expenses for both instructors and students. A study reported in Training Magazine indicated that organizations save 50-70% on training costs when they use e-learning programs instead of classroom courses.
CCOHS’ e-courses are unique in that they are developed by subject specialists in the field, and reviewed by representatives from labour, non-government employers and government to ensure the content and approach are unbiased, credible and technically accurate. There are quizzes throughout and a certificate of completion is issued upon passing the exam.
More information about CCOHS’ health and safety e-courses, pricing and how to register is available on both the CCOHS website.
