Keep Safety Top of Mind on Take Our Kids to Work Day

November 4, 2019 – Hamilton, ON – Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS)

On November 6, 2019, workplaces across Canada will open their doors to welcome grade nine students (Senior 1 in Manitoba and Secondary III in Quebec) for Take Our Kids to Work Day. While students experience first hand what the working world has to offer on this day, the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) urges all organizations welcoming students to make safety a priority.

Students are particularly at risk of getting injured in the workplace. The reasons vary; however, more often than not, they lack relevant training and experience and may not fully understand or be aware of the hazards in the workplace.

On Take Our Kids to Work Day, CCOHS recommends that employers take the time to hold a workplace orientation with participating students that focuses on health and safety issues relevant to the environment they work.

To help workplaces get started, CCOHS has a collection of resources available for free: Young Workers Zone website, new worker orientation checklists, new worker infographic. More information, resources, and tools to promote workplace health and safety are available at www.ccohs.ca.
