When it comes to mental health in the workplace, language matters. Are you or your colleagues unintentionally reinforcing a harmful stigma that affects the mental health of others? This course will give you tools to recognize where that is happening and to help support your colleagues who may be struggling with mental health.

This free, 30-minute course will give you a better understanding of what stigma is, how it causes harm, and how to address it in the workplace.

Topics include:

  • Understanding how stigmas are established and avoid perpetuating them
  • Three common aspects of stigmas
  • Person-first language vs. identity-first languge
  • Supporting your colleagues who are struggling with mental health through active listening and offering resources
  • Using the STOP test to recognize stigmatizing behaviour or attitudes

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify what stigma is and how it is harmful
  • Recognize the importance of words and identify appropriate language
  • Implement tools that can be used to reduce stigma

Average time to complete this course is approximately 30 minutes.
