There are many sources of impairment such as fatigue, life stresses, use of drugs, and the consumption of alcohol. Impairment can affect behaviour and the ability to perform job tasks safely. To reduce this impact, workplaces should have appropriate mechanisms in place, provide clear guidance to all parties, and apply policies and programs fairly and consistently.
