Learn more about or view all OSH Essentials

The term "Manual Materials Handling" (MMH) refers to work which requires moving or handling things by lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling, carrying, holding, or restraining. MMH is the most common cause of occupational fatigue and pain. About three of every four Canadians whose job includes MMH suffer pain due to injury at some time. Such injuries account for about one-third of all lost work and more than one third of all compensation costs.

  • Assess the risks of manual materials handling
  • Become familiar with and identify the applicable legislation by key sections of jurisdictions
