About 17,000 Ontario workers are injured each year in falls reported to the WSIB. The majority of these injuries result from falls from the same level – namely, slips and trips. This course offers guidance on how to prevent these types of injuries in the workplace. It provides workers, managers, supervisors and health and safety committees with practical information, tips and examples to help them to understand the causes of falls, and to take preventive measures.

This course focuses on the two most common types of falls: falls at the same level and falls on stairs. Fall hazards of these types exist in most workplaces including offices, the service sector, manufacturing and construction.

Developed by CCOHS in collaboration with WSPS, this course also features case studies, review quizzes, "Ask a Question", and access to resources from CCOHS and WSPS. Those who score at least 80% on the final exam will be able to print a certificate of completion.

Topics include:

  • Common causes of falls
  • How slips and trips occur
  • Roles of floor surfaces, stairs, walkways, housekeeping, obstructions, spills, and outdoor conditions
  • Worker and employer responsibilities
